Developer notes

Hey there! Yowan from Juicy Beast here. This is a demo we made in a few months to test out an idea we had about adding the Balatro formula to the classic Yacht dice game. We went out of our comfort zone by dressing the game  in a mid-century-inspired cartoon style, which was a ton of fun. We also made it as a (cursed) board game you'd find in the basement of an old house. Let's see if you can guess the lore from the few hints sprinkled here and there!

We'd love to hear your thoughts, good and bad, so please try it out and leave a comment :)

Love it! Gimme the full game!

This is gambling... in the best way possible.

YOU GOT A ONE WITH TWO DICE?!

(+1)

pretty interesing temu balatro!

this game is soo cool

Super fun!

This demo is so cool, has a ton of potential if you plan on fleshing it out into a full game. Love all the personality and style and the core gameplay is really fun!

Snow storm does not seem to work properly, it never increases the score value, despite never using my red die.
Also, some relics, including Ladder and Skip and Draw, seem to only work on the score card, not the top.

inspiring work!

…. Now I want deviled eggs….

Desperately needs smartphone support because I've been sitting on my commute everyday Yearning. Love the Devil's design as well, he's adorable.

Hey, this is really good!

I hadn't understand the dice game before and all. This game teaches me well. Bravo.

Very fun game, and I loved the animations! My only complaint is that it's a bit short, but it is a demo, after all. Love to see where this goes in the future!

Also, here was my best run:

Absolutely wonderful game, love the art style! I haven't got past the last round of the second stage, but from what I've played, it's such a fun game. Was a little hard to understand at first, but after a few rounds, it was pretty easy to pick up!

that was lots of fun :) creating insane game-breaking combos in inscryption fashion is an infinite dopamine generator for me

Love this game, for a moment felt like I broke it :D

i love this game make the full thing rn

It was fun, even though I didn't really understand the rules! It's very well drawn and animated, the game has a style and I like it!

(1 edit)

Found a very fun bug where if you roll the dice again just after finishing a round they get thrown up into the air and just keep going up until they fill the screen. They do eventually disappear and the game becomes playable again. Marvelous

Pretty fun, but balancing seems a bit on the harder side.

Loved it - especially enjoyed the retro cartoon characters and overall style.

Super fun game!! As a fellow Alana, this gets a 10/10 from me :)

GREAT game

Well, I don't think I have enough to guess at "THE LORE" or whatever, but I think I've found at least one connection in the larger jigsaw puzzle:

Alana's rulebook at the start is missing page six, and the shopkeep has a page labelled "Rules" in the background.

Theory: The shopkeep IS Alana P.,  who graciously replaced what WOULD be a dangerous, counterintuitive page of the rules with her own custom set that helps the player get one over on the devil. She holds the previous page behind her as some personal reminder of the choice she's made for us.

Very kind of her if so, honestly.

As for the game itself... I'll admit, I definitely feel mixed about it, but I don't know how much of that comes down to a lack of familiarity with Yacht, and how much comes from the game itself. Regardless, I feel hope about this game, and wish you the best of luck with it!

This is an amazing spin on the Balatro formula! I have been a fan of Juicy Beast ever since the days of flash. I had no idea that they were making games like this

(+1)

I got this in my main page for some reason. I rarely play these kind of games but this was VERY fun. Very recommended.

(+1)

great game also burrito bison is in my top ten mobile/flash games

(+1)

This is a really well-made game! Charming and stylized artwork, wonderful UI, a fun gameplay loop, and a variety of relics! It's very clearly Balatro-inspired, and maybe a bit of Slay the Spire in there, but still crafts an identity of its own.

Great work!

You DIABOLIC DICE DEMON make me FATIGUED FRUSTRATED FED UP and also make me RETURN RESTLESSLY and REPETEAVELY

(+4)

I made it to stage 19. Could maybe make 20 with a little more optimization.

I got to, I think, stage 15 or 16, but I needed a second mouse to go much further. You can get a second one by looking in the random bags while one is in the shop.

bro what

Hey devs just a heads up there is ads using the videos and images you used for this page as a bait and switch for players on google play from the reviews on it they say its nothing like the game and is just generic ai slop like mobile game ads if you want a link to it feel free to let me know

(+1)

Thanks for the heads up! Do you know how it's called so we can flag it?

(+4)

Yeah its under the handle vira games i tried to find a link to the app directly but there entire catalog is full of mass produced junk i keep finding ads on instagram if i find the page directly i will send an actual link

I think Stage 13 Round 3 is pretty much the limit

My strategy:

  • Get the Golden Ladder as early as possible
  • Red Disc, Red Mouse, Hungry Pachyderm, and Monopoly are must have
  • Put Skip and Draw on Pentacle, basically sacrificing it for better multipliers (*6 instead of *5 for Red Mouse), and you get an extra die
  • At later stages, Two for Two, Last Resort and Overdrive are important as they *2 Mult

(+1)

I've beaten the game after a streak of lucky breaks. I did however encounter a deal-breaker of a bug that wouldn't count 3oak 6's in endless mode when banking them as such.

(+2)(-1)

Snow Storm not triggering when playing against "Red Meat Tasty!" is a rage quit from me. That's not what "scoring" means. >:(

To amend this statement, I don't think Snow Storm works period, I have it in my relics hot-bar and it's not triggering at all. :/

(1 edit)

What the heck?! Does "Skip and Draw" not work either?!

I can feel like I can say with confidence that Secondhand also doesn't work, I'm going to have to come back way later to see if any of this is fixed.

I do not think it does either but it's only 20 points, when you need thousands. Just bail it

(-2)

rage quitting yahtzee, grow up

Some items only work if you put them on a score category

(1 edit) (+2)

Really good art style and direction, the UI is very comprehensive. Unfortunately there's so little room for error in the game-play loop of managing random chance that I can't even get 5 minutes into a round. The player needs some kind of guarantee to build a risk/reward system around yet the options in the shop are all conditional. Other score attack games use cards that you can depend on to exist in that deck; yet with dice, you can have a flexible strategy but it will not guarantee you'll have the agency to accommodate for every (or more likely any) roll. I'm kinda miffed as to why I couldn't reorder my dice from left to right because that seems like the kind of agency I could really use when building a strategy.

Beautiful game, love the art style and the mechanics.

Also, red disc + red mouse is a bit too strong.

Red meat tasty. need i say more

so fun + love the art :D!! i did encount a glitch, when buying a relic in the shop i clicked on a slot in the score card that already had a relic (marble) and it emptied the slot lol (the image of the marble is still there but it's empty)

i know how to play yahtzee

I like yahtzee, I like being able to change the rules of the game a bit with relics and what not. However, with how luck dependent this game appears to be, I did not enjoy losing 230 points to the police office for scoring 0s with the limited amount of categories there are (at any given time, saw there were a handful of other point earning possibilities that can change out as needed) as it feels horrible rolling 2 back to back 0 scores to lose almost 500 points. That said, personal gripe, overall the game was fun. Maybe knocking it down to 150-175 would feel better? Or maybe it's just because it was the second boss and I'm salty from losing out early lol

Overall though, I'd waste time on this game again
